The INTEC courses will be for your own account but the Further Education and Training certificate in Sport Administration is free and forms part of your gap year qualification if you wish to enrol and do qualify. (See Option B)

  • All the UJ matches, in which Rugby Factory students play will be recorded, analysed and every student will receive the match stats a few days later. This will provide us with footage to watch and analyse and together with the stats provided will help us to highlight problem areas to improve the individual.

All Rugby Factory students do receive an achievement related bursary. This will entitle you to an R 3000 deduction after 5 months if you adhere to the requirements and another R 3000 after the second 5 month period.

Individual add-on bursaries might be allocated according to individuals' rugby/sporting achievements.

Yes, we do arrange interaction with residences on campus.

7h30 - 9h15: Field session (4 to 5 days per week)

9h15 - 10h00: Breakfast where you stay

10h00 - 11h30: Class (4 to 5 days per week)

12h00 - 13h00: Gym (4 to 5 days per week) Forwards and backs to split for gym sessions. The group that is not in the gym will be on the field for position related drills and exercises.

Afternoons: Students coach at schools to be arranged by them with the assistance from the Rugby Factory. Students will also be requested by the GLRU referee association to referee minor/starter games. This is also our time set aside for coaching clinics and social responsibility actions.

Students enrolling for distance learning courses will be expected to work/study at least 2 afternoons from 14h00 to 16h00 under supervision of a rugby factory employee.

We rent a very nice double storey where 12 students can stay. The house is 50m from where we practice and have our classes. The house is 1km from the campus and gym and the same distance from the UJ training grounds. If we need more accommodation we have access to more houses.

Another house is also available where 30 students can stay which is 500m form the stadium and also 1km from the campus and gym.

To share a room will cost you from R 2200 per month for a 10 month contact period. A single room will cost from R 3300 per month. (Also a 10 month contract). These prices still to be finalized but a very good estimate. Food is excluded, students prepare their own food and some share the cooking. Our students do a cooking/nutrition/diet course within the first month. A deposit of a months' rent will be charged with the first months' rent and will be forfeited in-case of damage to the property by the individual. In 2010 a food extra option were added which will cost you from R 300 per week for your 3 meals.

 

The Rugby Factory house is a furnished house with a fridge freezer, washing machine and stove Beds and mattresses are provided but no pillows and linen.  You can bring your own little fridge for your room.

Unfortunately you are not a registered student at UJ and therefore you can't stay in one of the residences.

You will play for the Rugby Factory team in the "Uitklop" league at the beginning of the year which serves as the UJ U/19 and U/21 trials. You will represent the Rugby Factory in the "Koshuis" league to compete with the residences on campus. You will also represent the Rugby Factory team in games arranged with other clubs and academies. Rugby Factory students will play for the various UJ club teams from U/19, U/21 or some of the senior teams, 2nd or 3rds.

No full time study will be possible because this will clash with our program. We have an agreement with Intec for their distance learning courses. They have agreed to a 10% discount to all Rugby Factory students that enrol with Intec. Please visit their website for more information on the wide range of courses available. www.intec.edu.za. This will be done as part of your gap year curriculum.

If you decide to go this route, you will be expected to work/study at least 2 afternoons from 14h00 to 16h00 under supervision of a rugby factory employee. This employee will be responsible to assist all students with their assignments and handing them in on time. Correspondence and any feedback from Intec will be handled by this individual and he will also keep all parents up to date on the Intec students' progress.

Another option is to do the UJ Sport Administration short courses as part of your gap year curriculum. www.uj.ac.za/sport. You will receive an UJ certificate if you pass.

Another option is where the Lions Rugby Factory applies with Theta for a Learnership in Further Education and Training certificate in Sport Administration. This is all depended on Theta if our application is successful. If you pass you will obtain a NQF level 4 qualification. (See Option B).

We are based at the UJ Stadium where we practice and have our lectures. We Gym at the UJ Sport Centre situated on campus. Practices for the UJ teams are at Milo Park, opposite the Helen Joseph Hospital.

We are the official rugby academy/factory of the Golden Lions Rugby Union. They help us with our marketing, scouting, contracting, clothing, IRB level 1 coaching certificate, GLRU level 1 referee certificate, specialized coaching and they over-see and approve our curriculum and coaching sessions.

The University of Johannesburg provide us with all our course material and lecturers. UJ provide us with the best facilities one can ask for, practice fields, gymnasium and lecture rooms.

It has been achieved before but that is something the Rugby Factory can't promise you. You will definitely be exposed to the Lions and their coaches and selectors. If you work hard and impress, who knows. Your destiny is in your hands.

We will release you for a fee to be discussed with that union.

Yes, you will be allowed to play for another club. This is something we would like to promote. Another club or union can enrol you at the Rugby Factory, maybe as a bursary and hopefully this will uplift the skill level of players across the union.
